Why Valle Nevado is the Ideal Choice for Your Chile Ski Holiday

When we plan Chile ski holidays, Valle Nevado is often the first resort we recommend — because it’s one of the easiest and most complete ski experiences in South America.

Located high in the Andes just outside Santiago, it offers reliable snow from June to September, wide-open terrain, and a ski-in/ski-out resort setup that makes the whole trip straightforward to organise.

Our director and ski specialist Ross Griffiths explains:

“If you want a Chile ski trip that feels easy from day one, Valle Nevado is usually where I’d start.”

One of the biggest advantages is that when you stay in one of the in-resort hotels, lift passes, meals and access to neighbouring La Parva are often included — removing much of the usual complexity and making it one of the most seamless long-haul ski holidays you can plan.

At Your Endless Travel, we use first-hand knowledge and carefully designed itineraries to ensure every Chile ski trip works exactly as it should from start to finish.

When Is the Best Time to Ski Valle Nevado?

The ski season in Valle Nevado typically runs from mid-June through late September, with some seasons extending into October depending on snowfall.

From a planning perspective, the best time to ski Valle Nevado comes down to what you’re looking for — whether that’s early-season value, peak winter conditions, or sunnier spring skiing.

Our recommendation: For most travellers, we recommend August, when snow coverage is at its best and conditions are most reliable.

Skiing in Valle Nevado by Month

June - Early season skiing and good value

June marks the start of the ski season in Valle Nevado.

Snow conditions can be more variable at this stage, but in good years, it can offer surprisingly strong early powder days. It’s also one of the quieter times to visit, making it appealing if you want space on the slopes and lower demand.

We tend to recommend June for:

  • Flexible travellers
  • Those chasing early-season value
  • Skiers comfortable with variable conditions

July — Peak winter atmosphere and stronger snow cycles

July is when Valle Nevado begins to feel like a fully established ski destination.

Snow coverage improves across the mountain, more runs open, and the resort has a stronger mid-winter atmosphere. However, it’s worth noting that late July can be busier, particularly around school holidays and peak travel periods.

We recommend July for:

  • Travellers looking for early peak-season Conditions
  • Families travelling during school holidays
  • skiers wanting a lively resort feel

August — The best all-round month for most travellers

August is generally considered the best time to ski Valle Nevado.

By this point in the season:

  • The snowpack is at its deepest
  • Most terrain is open
  • Conditions are more consistent

Across Chile, August is widely regarded as the prime window for reliable skiing, with a strong base and regular snowfall refreshing the slopes.

September — Spring skiing, sunshine and a more relaxed feel

September brings a different kind of ski experience.

Days become warmer, the weather is often clearer, and the overall pace of the resort is more relaxed. Snow coverage generally remains good due to the established base built through winter, but conditions shift more towards spring skiing.

We recommend September for:

  • Couples
  • Ski and wine itineraries
  • Travellers looking for sunshine and softer conditions
